Interesting enough, Facebook now posted warnings widespread that people can only add friends if they know them personally (although facebook suggests people to you and more).
When I signed into facebook (and not having sent any friend requests for sometime) I received a warning that I had tried to add friends I didn't know, and shouldn't and had to confirm twice this rule or I would not be allowed to add friends. Wow. See below. Click to enlarge.
Facebook acknowledged it was hacked! Well, they softened it up a bit. MSN has a report and a response as of 6 HOURS AGO.
www.slashgear.com Facebook comments on Porn and Violence Spam attacks
Protecting the people who use Facebook from spam and malicious content is a top priority for us and we are always working to improve our systems to isolate and remove material that violates our terms. We have recently experienced an increase in reports and we are investigating and addressing the issue.
Facebook in a lot of ways (depending on whom you follow or share with in it) can become quite tedious. You are your own Moderator. From removing unwanted posts, offensive material, some people argue freedom of speech therefore anything goes. Some things are just rude, vulgar, uncalled for, lots of "posting-crazies" as I'd like to call them that warrant a facebook restraining order.
I logged in to facebook yesterday, I have about 800 friends currently, some are from abroad, but usually I don't share with just anybody unless I make sure they aren't a nut case (e.g. extremists who have computers and don't get out much). Last night when I logged in, was a bit surprised to find gruesome and real graphic images and photos of violence being shared, thousands of comments on them, they were real, turns out a lot of facebook accounts have been hacked (according to what I've made of it) by a Muslim (and now a Chinese) hacking group, they are showing pictures of dead kids, images of hate, violence and so forth. I tried to report and block some of these images when I saw them to help expedite the things along, I was told by facebook that spam reporting was OVERLOADED and sorry for the inconvenience. Last resort? Hide the images until you refresh the page, wham, they're back up again. I logged into facebook today (11-14-11), to find the same but worse, now full frontal pornography being shared all over the place.
IMHO, Facebook makes it too difficult to stop things like this, instead, I'm not signing in for a while, I researched the issues online, found no reports of this current dilemma being acknowledged by anybody (including facebook). This looks like a wide spread attack. I know some accounts get hacked occasionally but never like this. This is very wide scale.
Interesting enough if you think you've been hacked or your account has been "broken into" facebook has a link to try and "re-secure" it. Here's where you go for that:
https://www.facebook.com/checkpoint/checkpointme?f=113194692112762

By the way, notice the link is HTTPS not HTTP, most of facebook is HTTP (even if you login under HTTPS) more than likely, so they have plausible deniability.
Additionally, there was a "promise" (or threat) by several hacking groups that they were going to hack and or attack facebook on November 5th, 2011 (see here). Anyways, facebook has an average of 600,000, YES, SIX-HUNDRED-THOUSAND facebook are accounts hacked daily!!! I suggest would being more careful with where you login, who sees you, whos computer you do it from, be weary of using free internet and your local coffee house (from gateways being installed to steal your info, etc.) and use HTTPS protocol whenever possible. Last but not least, change your passwords often.
